MISSISSIPPI — Two Mississippi school districts will remain closed Friday following severe storms that moved through the state earlier this week, according to district officials.
Lawrence County School District announced that all schools and offices will remain closed on May 8 because of continued internet outages across the district, power outages at Lawrence County High School and the district office, and storm debris blocking bus routes.
District officials said downed trees and power lines are preventing safe travel for school buses. The district plans to reopen on Monday, May 11.
Lincoln County School District also announced that all schools will remain closed Friday due to ongoing power outages and safety concerns tied to storm damage.
The closures come after severe weather impacted parts of Mississippi on May 6, causing damage, power outages and hazardous road conditions in several communities.
