FLORIDA — Two people were hospitalized after a small plane crashed Friday morning near North Perry Airport in Pembroke Pines, authorities said.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, a Cessna 172P crashed around 11:30 a.m. shortly after departing from North Perry Airport. The aircraft was carrying two occupants.
Officials said both people were pulled from the wreckage and transported to a nearby hospital as trauma alerts. Pembroke Pines police reported that all occupants were conscious and breathing following the crash.
The plane came to rest upside down on the grounds of the South Florida State Hospital campus near 800 E. Cypress Drive. Aerial footage from the scene showed the overturned aircraft on the hospital property.
Authorities said no additional injuries were reported and traffic in the area was not expected to be affected by the incident.
Federal records show the aircraft, registered as N96100, is owned by Blue Sky Aviation, a South Florida-based flight training company.
The cause of the crash has not been determined. Local authorities and federal investigators have not released additional information about the occupants or what may have led to the aircraft going down.
The investigation remains ongoing.
