TEXAS — A Southwest Texas College student was killed and another was injured following an incident involving a bucket truck on the college’s Uvalde campus, according to a statement released by the school.

College officials said the incident occurred shortly after 2:20 p.m. Thursday. The two students involved were enrolled in the school’s Powerline Technology Program.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the campus and transported both students to a hospital for treatment. One of the students later died from injuries sustained in the incident, the college said.

“College personnel responded immediately and are providing support to the students’ families,” the school said in its statement.

Southwest Texas College said it is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident and is cooperating with internal and external partners as part of the investigation.

“The safety and well-being of students, employees, and visitors remain a top priority,” the statement said. “Southwest Texas College extends its condolences to the family and friends of the student who passed away and asks the community to keep both students and their families in their prayers.”

Officials did not immediately release the names of the students involved or additional details about how the incident occurred.

The investigation remains ongoing.
