GEORGIA — Two people were killed in a single-vehicle crash on Gordon Highway early Friday morning, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened around 5:23 a.m. on Gordon Highway just west of Barton Chapel Road.

Investigators said the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Gordon Highway near Milledgeville Road when it struck the median. The vehicle then crossed the westbound lanes, left the roadway and overturned in a wooded area on the north side of the highway.

Authorities said a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver remained inside the vehicle and was also pronounced dead at the scene.

The Richmond County Coroner’s Office said the identities of the victims will be released after next of kin have been notified.

The westbound lanes of Gordon Highway were closed for approximately two hours following the crash. All lanes reopened around 8 a.m.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is conducting an active investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
