
NORTH CAROLINA — Two people were arrested in Chatham County and are facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after deputies say they stole a truck from a farm supply store.
According to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Monday to a reported theft at Bennett Farm Supply. The following day, authorities received a tip that one of the suspects, 32-year-old Jacob Phillips, was in the area of Chirpy Road.
When deputies responded, they located a blue truck hidden in the woods off Claude Phillips Road. Inside the vehicle, deputies found Phillips and 36-year-old Morgan Shaw along with stolen property. Authorities also reported finding a stolen firearm, methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Phillips has been charged with felony possession of a stolen firearm, felony obtaining property by false pretenses and felony larceny in Lee County. He also faces misdemeanor charges including carrying a concealed firearm, possession of stolen goods, larceny and three counts of resisting a public officer.
Shaw is charged with felony purchase of a firearm in violation of a domestic violence protective order, felony possession of a stolen firearm, felony maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances and felony possession of methamphetamine. She also faces misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed firearm and weapon, resisting a public officer, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In addition, deputies said Shaw was served warrants related to felony stalking, violation of a domestic violence protection order and accessory after the fact charges in Lee County.
Both suspects are being held at the Chatham County Jail without bond and are scheduled to appear in court Monday.
All charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
