NORTH CAROLINA — Three people were airlifted to the hospital following a late-night shooting in Martin County, and authorities say the suspect was later found with a gunshot wound in another county.
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to Paradise Lane in the Williamston area around 11:30 p.m. Friday after reports of a shooting. While en route, dispatchers advised that there were multiple victims.
When deputies arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound in a nearby yard. Inside the home, investigators discovered two women, both with multiple gunshot wounds. Other family members inside the residence were safely removed and were not injured.
Emergency crews from multiple agencies responded, and all three victims were transported by air to ECU Health in Greenville. Their conditions have not been released.
Authorities identified the victims as a 26-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, both from Williamston, and a 21-year-old woman from Murfreesboro.
Witnesses at the scene helped deputies quickly identify a suspect and vehicle, prompting a regional alert.
Shortly after, Washington Police responded to a report of a man with a gunshot wound near 15th Street and Perkins Lane. That individual was identified as the suspect in the Martin County shooting and was also airlifted to ECU Health for treatment.
Investigators later found the suspect’s vehicle abandoned in the roadway.
Authorities said the suspect is facing three counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the case. Officials said there is no ongoing threat to the public, and the investigation remains active.
