ILLINOIS — Three people were killed and three others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday night near Kirkwood, according to Illinois State Police.
The crash occurred on U.S. Route 34 north of East Walnut Street and 160th Avenue in Kirkwood.
Illinois State Police said the collision involved two passenger vehicles. Three people were pronounced dead at the scene.
Three additional people were injured and transported to a regional hospital for treatment, police said. Information about the severity of their injuries was not immediately released.
The roadway was temporarily closed following the crash as emergency crews responded and investigators worked at the scene. The highway reopened Sunday morning.
Authorities have not released the identities of those involved.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Illinois State Police.
