Thousands without power in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — Thousands of North Carolina residents are currently without electricity Friday morning as power outages continue to affect several counties across the state.

According to PowerOutage.us, 2,191 customers are without power statewide as of Friday morning. The outages affect approximately 0.04% of the more than 5.5 million customers tracked across North Carolina.

Cabarrus County is reporting the largest number of outages, with 995 customers currently without power. Iredell County has 293 outages, followed by Rowan County with 282, Gaston County with 162 and Yadkin County with 124. Additional outages are also being reported in Davie, New Hanover and Mecklenburg counties.

Duke Energy is reporting the largest number of affected customers, with 1,501 outages statewide. Energy United reports 604 customers without service, while Haywood EMC, Tideland EMC and Dominion Energy are reporting smaller outages.

Cabarrus County is currently the hardest-hit county in the state, with approximately 1.23% of tracked customers without electricity.

North Carolina ranks seventh in the nation for the total number of power outages and 11th nationwide for the percentage of customers affected, according to PowerOutage.us.

Utility crews continue working to restore service to affected customers. Outage totals are current as of Friday morning and may change throughout the day as repairs are completed and additional outages are reported.
