Thousands without power in Alabama

ALABAMA — More than 2,600 customers across Alabama are without electricity Friday morning, according to PowerOutage.us.

The outage tracking website reported 2,642 homes and businesses currently without power statewide. The outages affect about 0.1% of the more than 2.6 million customers tracked across Alabama.

Madison County is reporting the highest number of outages in the state, with 1,391 customers without electricity. Tuscaloosa County has 302 outages, while Pickens County reports 130. Mobile and Cullman counties are each reporting 103 customers without power.

Among utility providers, Huntsville Utilities has the largest number of outages with 1,391 customers affected. Alabama Power reports 906 outages statewide, while Cullman Electric Cooperative has 188 customers without electricity.

PowerOutage.us said Alabama currently ranks sixth in the nation for the number of active outages and sixth nationwide for the percentage of customers affected.

Utility crews continue restoration efforts across the state Friday morning. No widespread cause for the outages was immediately released.
