
NORTH CAROLINA — A suspect is dead and a police officer was injured following an officer-involved shooting Tuesday night in Asheville, according to the Asheville Police Department.
Police said officers responded around 9:45 p.m. on April 21 to a report of a person with a gun at a business located at 1978 Hendersonville Road.
According to authorities, the suspect fired at officers through a glass door of the business. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect.
The suspect was transported to Mission Hospital, where he later died in the early morning hours of April 22, police said.
One officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries caused by broken glass during the incident.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has been notified and will handle the investigation in accordance with department protocol.
No additional information has been released.
