OHIO — A man died Friday after experiencing a medical emergency during an encounter with deputies in Montgomery County, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to the 5100 block of Embassy Place on May 15 after receiving a trespassing complaint. The caller reported that a man, believed to be the father of her child, had been banging on doors and walking between the front and back of the residence.

Dispatchers advised responding deputies that the man had previous encounters with law enforcement involving failure to comply and a prior Taser deployment.

While searching the area, deputies located a man matching the description in the 5700 block of North Dixie Drive, where authorities said he was walking in the middle of the roadway.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies attempted to make contact with the man, but he failed to comply and continued walking into oncoming traffic. A deputy then deployed a Taser, and a second deputy arrived to assist in taking him into custody.

Authorities said the man attempted to ingest a bag containing suspected narcotics while deputies tried to restrain him and continued resisting as they moved him out of the roadway.

After being removed from the roadway, the man suffered a medical emergency and became unresponsive, according to the sheriff’s office.

Medics performed life-saving measures at the scene before transporting him to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The two deputies involved have been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with standard procedure while the incident remains under investigation.
