SOUTH CAROLINA — A 40-year-old man was arrested Thursday after a traffic stop in North Charleston led to the discovery of fentanyl and marijuana, according to police.

The North Charleston Police Department said officers stopped a vehicle for defective brake lights in the parking lot of 4310 Rivers Ave.

Police identified the passenger as Nicholas Vontez Myers. Officers said the driver appeared nervous during the stop, leading to further investigation.

According to authorities, officers developed probable cause to search the vehicle after speaking with the occupants. Myers reportedly told officers there was marijuana inside a bag in the car.

During the search, police said they found eight capsules that tested presumptively positive for fentanyl, approximately 250 grams of suspected marijuana and a scale.

Authorities said Myers admitted the drugs belonged to him.

He was charged with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute marijuana and was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
