TENNESSSEE — A medical technician at a Nashville prison is facing charges after authorities say he tried to bring illegal drugs into the facility.

According to arrest documents, 38-year-old Tamarcus Macon was stopped last week while attempting to pass through a security checkpoint at the Lois M. DeBerry Special Needs Facility along Cockrill Bend Boulevard.

A correctional officer searching Macon’s bag reportedly found 50 buprenorphine 8 mg strips in factory packaging, five sheets of altered paper believed to contain K2 and heroin, and 11 pills with markings consistent with oxycodone or other opioids.

Investigators also said three spray bottles containing colored liquids were discovered during the search.

According to the affidavit, the correctional officer told Macon he was not allowed to bring the spray bottles into the facility. Macon then retrieved the bottles and left the building.

The officer notified a supervisor, and a nurse later confirmed the suspected drugs included buprenorphine strips and opioid pills.

All items were sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation crime lab for analysis.

Court records show Macon has been charged with possession with intent to deliver a Schedule III controlled substance and introducing contraband into a penal institution.

His bond was set at $10,000. A court hearing is scheduled for July 24.
