PENNSYLVANIA — An elementary school in the Blacklick Valley School District was evacuated Monday after a student reportedly set toilet paper on fire inside the building, according to school officials.
District Superintendent William Kanich said the incident began after staff noticed a strong odor inside the elementary school. An investigation revealed that a student had attempted to start a fire in two separate bathrooms.
The Nanty Glo Fire Department responded and confirmed the source of the odor, officials said.
Out of an abundance of caution, school officials evacuated the building and dismissed students and staff for the remainder of the day.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
The student involved, whose identity has not been released, will be disciplined, according to district officials.
School officials said the building is expected to reopen as normal on Tuesday.
The incident remains under investigation.
