Part of I-64 in Indiana shut down due to hazmat situation

INDIANA — A portion of Interstate 64 in southern Indiana is expected to remain closed for several hours Friday morning due to a hazardous materials situation following a crash.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, all eastbound lanes of I-64 at mile marker 92, about five miles east of the Corydon area, were shut down as of 6:30 a.m. The incident was first reported around 4 a.m., according to Crawford County Dispatch.

Officials said the closure is due to a crash involving a semi-truck that struck a rock wall, causing a large amount of boulders to spill into the roadway. Authorities also reported an unknown amount of diesel fuel leaking from the truck’s tanks, prompting a hazmat response.

No injuries have been reported.

Crews are working to clear debris and contain the fuel spill. It remains unclear when the interstate will fully reopen.
