SOUTH CAROLINA — A crash on Interstate 385 southbound near the East Butler Road exit outside of Mauldin caused significant traffic delays Thursday evening, according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
Officials said the crash initially blocked all southbound lanes of I-385, creating heavy congestion for motorists traveling through the area.
Around 5:40 p.m., lanes began reopening, allowing traffic to slowly move through the crash scene. However, delays continued as vehicles worked through the backup.
As of 5:50 p.m., the estimated travel time from downtown Greenville to Fairview Road on I-385 had increased to 78 minutes due to the congestion.
Authorities had not released information about the cause of the crash, and there was no immediate word on any injuries.
Motorists were advised to expect delays and consider alternate routes while traffic conditions improved. The incident remained under investigation.
