
NORTH CAROLINA — Deputies are investigating the homicide of a man who was killed while working on a tractor Wednesday afternoon in the Maxton area, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said deputies responded just after 2:30 p.m. to the 2700 block of Morrison Road in reference to an unresponsive person. When they arrived, they found 65-year-old Ernie Locklear, of Maxton.
Locklear was transported to UNC Southeastern Medical Center in Lumberton, where he later died from his injuries.
According to the sheriff’s office, preliminary results from an autopsy conducted by the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office determined Locklear’s death to be a homicide.
The incident remains under investigation by the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Criminal Investigation divisions.
