OKLAHOMA — An Oklahoma man was hospitalized after a motorcycle crash involving a deer early Wednesday morning in Lyon County, according to local authorities.

Deputies said the crash happened shortly before 6 a.m. in the 1600 block of Kansas Highway 130, also known as Road X, about a mile north of Neosho Rapids.

According to Deputy Fernando Zuniga with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, 30-year-old Cole Duncan of Oklahoma was riding a motorcycle when a deer entered the roadway, causing the collision. Investigators said Duncan was thrown from the motorcycle and skidded across the highway.

Emergency crews from Emporia Fire Department responded to the scene along with sheriff’s deputies. Duncan was taken by ambulance to Newman Regional Health with suspected serious injuries.

Authorities said Duncan was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The crash temporarily prompted officials to ask drivers to avoid the area while emergency crews worked at the scene.
