MISSISSIPPI — A woman has been charged after a man was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon in Laurel, according to police.
Officers with the Laurel Police Department responded around 2:30 p.m. to the 700 block of North 1st Avenue following reports of a gunshot victim.
When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Police said officers immediately began providing aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency crews with EMServ Ambulance Service and the Jones County Coroner’s Office also responded. Authorities said the victim’s next of kin has been notified, but the man’s identity has not yet been released.
Police said 24-year-old Kizzy McLaurin was taken into custody following the shooting. According to the Jones County online inmate roster, McLaurin has been charged with manslaughter.
Investigators believe the shooting was domestic in nature.
The investigation remains ongoing.
