One person dead following vehicle crash on I-81 in Pennsylvania

PENNSYLVANIA — The Cumberland County coroner was called to the scene of a tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 81 in Cumberland County early Wednesday morning, according to PennDOT.

The crash happened around 12:40 a.m. on I-81 southbound about one mile north of Exit 44 for Route 465 in Plainfield Township near Carlisle.

Officials said the tractor-trailer ended up in the median of the highway. PennDOT reported the truck was hauling mulch.

Traffic cameras showed emergency crews responding to the scene for several hours. Authorities initially expected the roadway to reopen around 7:45 a.m.

No additional information about injuries or the identity of the driver has been released. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
