
VIRGINIA — Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Saturday night on Interstate 264 in Portsmouth.
According to authorities, the crash happened around 10:21 p.m. on May 2 in the westbound lanes of I-264 near Greenwood Drive.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 2011 Toyota Camry was traveling westbound in the left lane when it drifted to the right, left the roadway and struck trees near the shoulder.
The driver, identified as 68-year-old Timothy A. Caplinger of Hertford, was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Officials said a medical emergency is being considered as a possible factor in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation. Virginia State Police have not released additional details at this time.
