SOUTH CAROLINA — One person was killed in a crash early Saturday that shut down all eastbound lanes of Interstate 26 for several hours, according to authorities.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 4:30 a.m. near mile marker 172 at the U.S. 15 exits for Holly Hill and St. George.
Officials said a 2013 Freightliner truck and a 2013 Hyundai sedan were both traveling eastbound when the vehicles made contact. The impact caused the Hyundai to flip several times.
The driver of the Hyundai died from injuries sustained in the crash, authorities said.
The crash forced a complete shutdown of eastbound lanes, leading to detours and delays for motorists well into the morning.
Authorities later said the roadway had been cleared by Saturday afternoon.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
