WISCONSIN — A 59-year-old Antigo man was killed Tuesday morning after his semi-truck overturned in a construction zone on Highway 29 in Shawano County, according to authorities.
The crash happened around 4:54 a.m. near Porter Road in the Town of Hartland, according to the Shawano County Dispatch Center.
Investigators said the semi was traveling westbound in the right lane through a construction zone when the driver’s side tire entered a large cut-out section of roadway in the left lane. Authorities said the tire blew out, causing the driver to lose control of the truck.
The semi-truck and trailer overturned into the median, officials said. The trailer came to rest in the median while the cab landed in the eastbound lanes of Highway 29, completely blocking traffic.
Authorities said the driver became trapped inside the cab and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials noted that orange traffic posts had been placed around the cut-out portion of the roadway.
The semi and trailer both sustained severe damage in the crash.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, Shawano Ambulance, Bonduel EMS and Bonduel Fire Department.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the driver’s name has not yet been released.
