TENNESSEE — A 23-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash Monday evening in Knoxville, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

Officers responded around 6:40 p.m. May 4 to the area of Merchant Drive and Central Avenue Pike on a report of a crash involving a motorcycle. The rider, a 23-year-old man from Crossville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary findings indicate the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Merchant Drive when it veered left into oncoming eastbound traffic. The motorcycle struck a Hyundai SUV head-on, and the rider was thrown from the bike before being hit by a Chevrolet Suburban traveling eastbound.

Two child passengers in the Hyundai SUV suffered suspected minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The Knoxville Police Department’s crash reconstruction team is investigating the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
