FLORIDA — A man was killed in an early morning ATV crash in Polk City, Florida, according to authorities.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 39-year-old Brandon Roy Moran.
Investigators said deputies responded around 3 a.m. Thursday to Fussell Road, about a quarter mile east of Commonwealth Avenue and roughly two miles north of Polk City.
First responders found Moran dead at the scene with severe head trauma.
According to investigators, Moran was operating a Polaris Sportsman 400 all-terrain vehicle when he lost control and was thrown from the ATV, striking his head on the pavement.
Authorities believe Moran was on the ground for an unknown period of time before being struck in the head by a passing vehicle. Officials said the driver of that vehicle did not stop and may not have realized they hit him.
Fussell Road was closed for approximately four hours during the investigation.
The crash remains under investigation, and the circumstances leading up to the loss of control are still unclear.
