FLORIDA — A 56-year-old man from Port Charlotte was killed Friday morning in a crash along Veterans Boulevard in Charlotte County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened on CR-776, also known as Veterans Boulevard, east of Wylam Drive.
Investigators said the man was driving a Toyota Sienna minivan westbound when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle abruptly veered left, crossed the grass median and entered the eastbound lanes.
According to FHP, the minivan sideswiped a Honda Passport SUV before striking a guardrail. Troopers said the vehicle then veered back across the roadway and hit the guardrail a second time.
The driver of the SUV, a 39-year-old man from Punta Gorda, was not injured. A 1-year-old child riding in the SUV in a rear-facing child restraint also was not hurt.
The driver of the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
