TENNESSEE — A joint law enforcement operation in Athens, Tennessee led to an arrest and the seizure of a large amount of suspected methamphetamine, according to authorities.
Officials with the McMinn County Sheriff’s Office said the operation took place Monday following a weeks-long narcotics investigation conducted by multiple agencies, including the 10th Judicial Drug Task Force, Athens Police Department, Tennessee Department of Homeland Security, Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Authorities said investigators identified a pending delivery of methamphetamine at two locations in Athens. Law enforcement monitored the sites throughout the day and made an arrest after the packages were delivered.
According to Sheriff Joe Guy, officers seized more than 13 pounds of suspected methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $60,000.
Investigators believe the drugs originated in California and were shipped to Athens as part of a larger criminal operation.
Officials said the investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests are expected.
