ALABAMA — One person was arrested following a traffic stop that led to a drug bust in Owens Cross Roads, according to police.
Authorities said officers with the Owens Cross Roads Police Department stopped a vehicle along U.S. 431 around 4 p.m. on May 8 for multiple equipment violations.
Police said an officer smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle while speaking with the driver. During the stop, the driver told officers there were two ounces of methamphetamine inside the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered about 5.2 pounds of methamphetamine, 20 grams of cocaine, about $13,000 in U.S. currency, approximately $677 in foreign currency and multiple items associated with the sale and distribution of narcotics.
According to police, the driver began showing signs of medical distress while in custody and was taken to Huntsville Hospital for treatment.
Investigators later obtained and executed a search warrant at the driver’s home, where officers said they found about 10 grams of methamphetamine, 42 Xanax pills, 4.5 grams of mushrooms, two morphine pills, a short-barreled rifle, another firearm and additional items linked to narcotics distribution.
Police said the driver was charged with drug trafficking and possession with intent to distribute and is being held on a $2 million bond.
