MISSISSIPPI — A vehicle pursuit in Lowndes County ended with a drug arrest following a traffic stop over the weekend, according to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the incident began during the morning hours of April 25 when they attempted to stop a 2026 Kia Elantra on Cole Road.
Authorities said the situation escalated into a pursuit that continued westbound on Highway 82. During the chase, the suspect allegedly drove in the eastbound lane, creating a dangerous situation for other motorists.
Investigators said the pursuit was initiated after the suspect struck a deputy’s vehicle on Cole Road. The chase came to an end in the 2200 block of 23rd Street North.
Deputies said the suspect ran from the vehicle but was quickly apprehended with the assistance of a K-9 unit.
A search of the vehicle revealed approximately 20 packages of suspected marijuana, each weighing about one pound, according to authorities. Deputies also recovered a .380-caliber handgun.
The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Quinton Brewer, was arrested and charged with felony fleeing and trafficking of marijuana.
Authorities said deputies, along with agents from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, later executed search warrants at Brewer’s home and another location he has access to. During those searches, investigators recovered additional marijuana, methamphetamine, two firearms and cash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
