MARYLAND — A late-night traffic stop in Anne Arundel County led to the arrest of a Catonsville man after a foot chase and the discovery of drugs and an unserialized handgun, according to police.

Officers conducted a traffic stop around 11:20 p.m. April 13 on a Honda Accord for a registration violation near Old Mill Road and Veterans Highway, authorities said. During the stop, officers requested a K9 trained to detect controlled dangerous substances.

Police said the K9 alerted to the presence of drugs, prompting a search of the vehicle. As the driver exited the car, he fled on foot but was quickly taken into custody nearby.

Investigators reported recovering 40.91 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, five pills believed to be Adderall, and nearly two pounds of suspected marijuana. Officers also seized an unserialized P80 9mm handgun loaded with 16 rounds, along with an additional empty 30-round extended magazine.

The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Jayden Derrell Smith of Catonsville.

Authorities said Smith now faces multiple charges. The case remains under investigation.
