FLORIDA — The death of a person found inside a burning vehicle earlier this month in Middleburg has been ruled a homicide, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Firefighters and deputies responded on April 6 to a vehicle fire near County Road 218 and North Mimosa Avenue. After the flames were extinguished, authorities discovered the body of a male victim inside the vehicle. Officials said an autopsy later determined the man’s death was a homicide.
Investigators have not yet released the victim’s name, age, or description, and details surrounding the circumstances of his death remain unclear. The sheriff’s office also has not provided information about the make or model of the vehicle.
Following a preliminary investigation, deputies believe the vehicle may have been parked at the location as early as the morning of April 5, though the fire itself did not start until the following day.
Authorities are asking anyone with information or video surveillance from the area to contact the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at 904-264-6512 and ask for Detective Nicole Mosley. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through First Coast Crime Stoppers or the SaferWatch app.
