Multiple schools in Arkansas could close Tuesday

ARKANSAS — Multiple school districts across Arkansas could face closures or delays Tuesday as a threat of severe weather moves into the region, potentially bringing power outages, flooding and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, much of Arkansas is under a “slight risk” for severe thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening. The storms are expected to develop across parts of northeast Texas and move into Arkansas, with the state at the center of the highest threat area.

Forecasters say the storms could produce large hail, damaging wind gusts and possibly a few tornadoes. In addition to the severe weather, heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding and high water on roadways.

The Storm Prediction Center noted that strong atmospheric conditions, including high moisture and wind shear, could allow storms to become severe quickly. Some storms could organize into supercells capable of producing significant damage.

Officials are encouraging families to stay updated on weather alerts and to have a plan in place in case schools announce closures or early dismissals.

The severe weather threat is expected to continue into the evening hours Tuesday, with conditions improving overnight as the system moves east.

Parents and students are advised to check with their local school districts for the latest updates.
