ALABAMA — A review of available 2025-26 Alabama public school calendars shows many districts across the state are scheduled to finish classes during May 2026, with several ending before Memorial Day.
Among the earliest May ending dates found was May 20, 2026, listed by Montgomery Public Schools as the final day for students. The district calendar shows May 21 as the final teacher workday.
Several Alabama districts are currently scheduled to conclude classes on May 21, 2026. Orange Beach City Schools lists May 21 as the “last day of school” with early dismissal for students, followed by a staff workday on May 22.
Dale County Schools also lists May 21, 2026 as the final student day on its board-approved district calendar.
In North Alabama, Huntsville City Schools currently schedules May 22, 2026 as the final teacher workday, with the calendar showing the preceding week dedicated to student half-days and exams leading into the end of the school year.
A number of additional Alabama districts have approved 2025-26 calendars posted online showing late May endings, including Madison City Schools, Autauga County Schools, Gadsden City Schools, Hoover City Schools, Lee County Schools and Russell County School District, although some search previews did not clearly display the exact final student date.
The review also found district calendar postings for Birmingham City Schools and Phenix City Schools, though their final student dates were not clearly visible in the search summaries reviewed.
The Alabama State Department of Education maintains a statewide school calendar resource that includes local district calendar information from systems across the state.
Many Alabama districts begin classes in early August, allowing students to complete the academic year before Memorial Day weekend. District calendars can still change because of weather-related closures, emergency make-up days or future school board revisions.
This review was based on publicly available 2025-26 calendars and district announcements and should not be considered a complete list of every Alabama school district.
