TEXAS — A Flood Watch remains in effect for portions of North Texas through Sunday afternoon as forecasters warn that additional heavy rainfall could lead to flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the Flood Watch remains in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday for parts of North Central Texas, including Dallas, Tarrant, Denton, Collin, Grayson, Cooke, Fannin, Parker, Johnson, Ellis, Wise, Young, Montague, Hood, Somervell, Bosque, Hill and Jack counties.
The watch includes major population centers such as Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano, McKinney, Denton, Sherman, Gainesville, Weatherford, Waxahachie and Cleburne.
Forecasters said widespread rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches have already fallen across the region, with localized amounts reaching 5 to 6 inches in some areas. Additional heavy rainfall of 1 to 2 inches remains possible through the morning hours.
The National Weather Service warned that excessive runoff could cause flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying locations. Areas that have already received significant rainfall may be especially vulnerable to additional flooding.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates, remain alert for possible Flood Warnings and avoid driving through flooded roadways.
The Flood Watch remains in effect until 4 p.m. CDT Sunday.
