
FLORIDA — A man died Sunday morning after falling into the New River in Fort Lauderdale, despite efforts by a bystander who entered the water in an attempt to save him.
According to authorities, the incident was reported around 5:07 a.m. along the 200 block of Southwest Second Avenue after a call came in regarding a possible drowning.
First responders rushed to the scene, but the man who fell into the river did not survive.
Investigators said the death is currently classified as undetermined, though preliminary information indicates the man appears to have drowned.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the incident and are working to determine exactly what happened before the man entered the water.
