ARKANSAS — A Flood Watch is in effect for portions of Arkansas on Sunday as forecasters warn that heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding and rising waterways across several counties.
The National Weather Service said excessive rainfall may cause flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying areas through late Sunday night.

In northwest Arkansas, the Flood Watch includes Benton, Carroll, Washington, Madison, Crawford, Franklin and Sebastian counties. Forecasters said multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the day, with localized rainfall totals of 3 to 4 inches possible.
Additional Flood Watches have been issued for parts of western Arkansas, including Johnson, Logan, Scott and Polk counties. Meteorologists said those areas have already received 3 to 4 inches of rain during the past 24 hours, increasing the risk of flash flooding if more heavy rain develops.
The National Weather Service warned that excessive runoff could cause creeks and streams to rise out of their banks, flood low-water crossings and create hazardous travel conditions in flood-prone locations.
Residents in affected areas are encouraged to closely monitor weather forecasts and remain alert for any Flood Warnings that may be issued. Officials also remind motorists to never drive through flooded roadways.
The Flood Watch remains in effect through late Sunday night.
