
OHIO — A Maryland pilot was killed Thursday afternoon after a small plane crashed in a rural area of southern Ohio, according to authorities.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:20 p.m. on April 17 near County Road 1A, about 2.7 miles west of U.S. 52 in Hamilton Township, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
Troopers from the Ironton Post responded to the scene, where a 1987 Mooney M20J aircraft had gone down in a field near the address of 8 County Road 1A.
The pilot, identified as David Wade of Salisbury, Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said it was asked by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board to secure the crash site. The Federal Aviation Administration will lead the investigation into the cause of the crash.
No additional information has been released. The incident remains under investigation.
