OHIO — Five people, including three teenagers, were hospitalized after a vehicle crashed into a tree late Saturday night in Champaign County, according to authorities.

Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Springfield Post responded around 11:45 p.m. to a crash at the intersection of Kiser Lake Road and Possum Hollow Road.

A preliminary investigation found that a Toyota Prius, driven by a 17-year-old girl, was traveling north on Kiser Lake Road when it went off the left side of the roadway, entered a tree line and struck a tree.

The driver was taken by ambulance to Mercy Health – Urbana Hospital with minor injuries. Troopers said she was at fault and cited her for failure to maintain reasonable control of a motor vehicle.

Four passengers were also in the car: 18-year-old Aynslee Dale of Mechanicsburg, 18-year-old Austin Hale of New Carlisle, a 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl. All four were transported to the same hospital with minor injuries.
