TEXAS — Five people were arrested after Live Oak police investigated alleged identity theft, mail theft and fraud at a Northeast Side home, according to authorities.

The Live Oak Police Department said officers searched a home Wednesday in the 6900 block of Elmwood Crest near Toepperwein Road.

Police arrested Octabio Ascencio, 50, Melanie Reyna, 34, and Richard Whitney, 39, in connection with the alleged identity theft and fraud scheme.

Investigators said Ascencio was suspected of stealing fewer than five identifying items, while Reyna and Whitney were accused of stealing more than 100 identifying items combined.

Authorities said the stolen information included personal identifying details such as names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, bank account information and government-issued identification numbers.

Police also arrested Giovanni Devora, 25, on a controlled substance charge.

A fifth suspect, Britney Herlong, 35, was taken into custody on a Pasco County, Florida, extradition warrant related to a larceny case.

According to police, alerts from Flock license plate reader cameras connected stolen vehicles to the home under investigation.

Live Oak police and the Alamo Region SWAT team executed the search warrant and recovered suspected fraudulent identification documents, credit cards, checks, stolen mail, electronic devices and narcotics.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said additional charges could be filed.
