FLORIDA — A body was discovered on the roof of an unoccupied building in Melbourne after neighbors reported a foul odor lingering in the area for about a week, according to police.
The Melbourne Police Department said officers responded around 3:22 p.m. Tuesday to a building on Sarno Road after a neighbor called to report the smell.
Investigators said the neighbor believed a dead animal might be on the roof and used a ladder to check the area. While on the roof, the person found a decomposed body and contacted authorities.
Police said the condition of the body made it impossible to immediately determine the victim’s age or gender.
Authorities said it remains unclear whether the death is suspicious because of the advanced decomposition.
Police also said there is no threat to the public at this time.
The investigation remains active, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Melbourne Police Department.
