MISSISSIPPI — Mississippi already has a Buc-ee’s location in Pass Christian along Interstate 10 on the Gulf Coast. Since opening in 2023, the massive travel center has become a popular stop for travelers moving along one of the busiest east-west corridors in the South.
However, despite the presence of the Pass Christian store, large portions of Mississippi remain hundreds of miles away from the state’s only Buc-ee’s. As the Texas-based chain continues expanding throughout the Southeast and beyond, several areas of Mississippi could potentially support another location in the future.
While no additional Mississippi stores have been announced, the company’s expansion strategy provides clues about where a second location could logically be built.
Why Another Mississippi Location Makes Sense
Mississippi is crossed by several major transportation routes, including Interstate 55, Interstate 20, Interstate 22, Interstate 59, Interstate 69 and Interstate 10.
The existing Pass Christian location primarily serves Gulf Coast traffic along Interstate 10. Meanwhile, northern, central and western Mississippi remain largely outside its immediate coverage area.
The state’s position between Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Tennessee and Arkansas also places it along several heavily traveled regional corridors.
Most Likely Mississippi Locations
Jackson Area (Interstate 55 and Interstate 20)
The Jackson region may be the strongest candidate for a second Mississippi Buc-ee’s.
Located at the crossroads of Interstate 55 and Interstate 20, Jackson sits at one of the state’s busiest transportation hubs. The area serves travelers moving between New Orleans, Memphis, Dallas, Birmingham and Atlanta.
A location on the outskirts of the metropolitan area would fit Buc-ee’s preference for highly visible interstate sites with substantial available land.
Tupelo Area (Interstate 22)
Tupelo has emerged as one of Mississippi’s fastest-growing regional centers and sits along Interstate 22, a major route connecting Memphis and Birmingham.
The corridor experiences significant commercial and passenger traffic and could provide Buc-ee’s with coverage in northeastern Mississippi.
Meridian Area (Interstate 20 and Interstate 59)
Meridian occupies another strategic location at the intersection of Interstate 20 and Interstate 59 near the Alabama border.
The area serves travelers heading between Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and the southeastern United States. The interchange’s traffic volumes closely resemble other locations where Buc-ee’s has successfully expanded.
Southaven Area (Interstate 55)
Southaven, located just south of Memphis, could become attractive because of its proximity to one of the largest metropolitan areas in the Mid-South.
A Buc-ee’s near Interstate 55 would serve travelers moving between Memphis, Jackson, Louisiana and the Gulf Coast while benefiting from strong local population growth.
Hattiesburg Area (Interstate 59)
Hattiesburg remains another possibility.
Situated along Interstate 59 between New Orleans and eastern Mississippi, the city serves as an important regional center and attracts substantial traffic from throughout southern Mississippi.
Less Likely but Possible
The Mississippi Gulf Coast already has coverage from the Pass Christian location, making another Interstate 10 store nearby less likely.
Likewise, more rural portions of the Mississippi Delta generally do not experience the interstate traffic volumes Buc-ee’s typically seeks when selecting new sites.
What Happens Next?
For now, Buc-ee’s remains focused on operating its Pass Christian location and advancing projects in other states across the country.
However, Mississippi’s extensive interstate network and central location within the Southeast suggest that additional expansion could be possible if the company chooses to add another store in the state.
If a second Mississippi Buc-ee’s is eventually built, the Jackson area appears to offer the strongest combination of interstate access, traffic volume and regional reach. Meridian, Tupelo and Southaven also stand out as realistic possibilities based on the company’s established development patterns.
While no second Mississippi location has been announced, the state’s transportation advantages make future Buc-ee’s growth a plausible long-term possibility.
