NORTH CAROLINA — A man was killed after being struck by a freight train in Cumberland County early Saturday morning, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. Saturday. Multiple emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, including deputies with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Cumberland County EMS and Fire personnel, and members of the Pearce’s Mill Fire Department.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released the victim’s identity. Officials said they are working to locate and notify the man’s family before releasing additional information.
No further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident have been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
