
NORTH CAROLINA — A 5-year-old boy has died after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash Friday evening in High Point, according to police.
Officers with the High Point Police Department responded shortly before 5 p.m. to a report of a person lying in the roadway near the intersection of East Russell Avenue and Hines Street.
When officers arrived, they found a 5-year-old boy in the street. Investigators said the child had been struck by a vehicle and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Police said the driver involved in the crash left the scene before officers arrived.
Investigators believe the suspect vehicle is a gray Ford Focus or Ford Fiesta, possibly a model from 2012 to 2018.
The investigation remains ongoing.
