KENTUCKY — Louisville Metro Police recovered suspected heroin, drug paraphernalia and multiple firearms during a narcotics investigation Wednesday in southwest Jefferson County.

According to court documents, officers stopped Ronnie Whaley Jr. and his wife on the road in front of their home. Investigators said Whaley told officers he had narcotics inside a bag in the residence and offered to show them where it was located.

Court records state both Whaley and his wife gave officers verbal consent to enter the home and recover the suspected narcotics and firearms.

Police said Whaley led officers to a purple backpack containing three large plastic bags of suspected heroin, two smaller bags of suspected heroin, digital scales and a small blender. Investigators believe the total amount of suspected heroin exceeded 500 grams.

According to the arrest citation, officers also located a bag near the door containing a revolver and a black powder pistol. Additional firearms were reportedly found in dresser drawers inside the main bedroom.

Police said Whaley later told officers in a mirandized statement that he may have moved the weapons around, but claimed they belonged to his wife.

Whaley is charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The investigation remains ongoing.
