
MISSISSIPPI — A motorcyclist was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a crash involving an SUV on Interstate 59 in Hattiesburg Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
The crash occurred just after 3:45 p.m. on I-59 South past U.S. Highway 98 West near the Purple Heart Bridge, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
Hattiesburg police said the crash involved a motorcycle with a single rider and an SUV carrying multiple occupants. Authorities reported that the motorcyclist was ejected during the crash and transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The occupants of the SUV suffered minor injuries, police said.
Traffic was reduced to one lane on I-59 South as emergency crews responded to the scene, causing delays. Officials said traffic was expected to return to normal within about 30 minutes.
The incident remains under investigation.
