NORTH CAROLINA — A three-day anti-violence operation in Durham led to 29 arrests and the seizure of 29 firearms, according to the Durham Police Department.
Police said “Operation Spring Seizure” was conducted from April 22 through April 24 by the department’s Organized Crime Division in partnership with Durham Task Force officers and the FBI.
Officials said the initiative targeted violent crime across the city and was guided by crime data and feedback from community members.
During the operation, officers conducted 97 traffic stops, served 58 outstanding warrants and arrested or cited 29 people.
Investigators said officers seized $13,852 in cash, more than 3,699 grams of marijuana, 390 dosage units of pills, 61 dosage units of THC, 47.8 grams of crack cocaine, 3.4 grams of fentanyl and 20 gallons of moonshine.
Police also recovered 29 firearms, including two equipped with illegal auto-sear switches.
Among those arrested were individuals facing charges related to drug trafficking, firearm possession, larceny, conspiracy and fleeing to elude arrest. Authorities said a 15-year-old juvenile was also charged, including with possession of a handgun by a minor.
Durham police said the operation contributed to a reduction in reported violent incidents during and after the enforcement effort.
The investigation remains ongoing.
