LOUISIANA — Two men were killed in a head-on crash Friday afternoon on Louisiana Highway 27 in Calcasieu Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.
Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded shortly after 3:30 p.m. May 8 to the two-vehicle crash near Natalie Road.
Investigators said Edgardo Reyes-Rivera, 23, of Denham Springs, was driving a 2022 Toyota Camry northbound on LA 27 while a 2014 BMW 550i driven by Jonathon Puente, 35, of Beaumont, was traveling southbound.
For reasons still under investigation, state police said the Toyota crossed the centerline into the southbound lane and struck the BMW head-on.
Authorities said Reyes-Rivera, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died. Puente, who was properly restrained, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
State police said toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
