NORTH CAROLINA — A joint operation between the FBI and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department led to 10 arrests and a federal effort to seize a northeast Charlotte hotel following a raid Wednesday morning, according to authorities.
Federal agents and CMPD officers executed search warrants at the Charlotte Garden Inn Suites on Reagan Drive after a six-month investigation.
Officials said 11 people were indicted as part of the operation. Ten suspects were arrested, including five facing federal charges and six facing state charges.
Authorities said the hotel had become a location connected to illegal drug and firearm activity.
CMPD reported officers responded to the hotel more than 240 times in 2025, a nearly 20% increase from the previous year. Investigators said police responded to the property 590 times between Jan. 1, 2024, and May 18, 2026, resulting in 47 arrests before Wednesday’s operation.
Federal authorities also filed a complaint seeking to seize the hotel.
Investigators said several members of the hotel’s security team were among those arrested.
The hotel’s head of security, identified as 39-year-old Marcus Logan, was charged federally with possession of a firearm by a felon. Authorities said Logan has prior convictions involving assault, robbery and narcotics offenses.
Four additional suspects were federally charged in connection with drug trafficking and firearm offenses, including Justin Day, 29, Michael Boatwright, 37, and Naquan Smith, 43. Officials said Smith was arrested at a separate location and is accused of supplying drugs connected to the hotel.
Authorities said a fifth federally indicted suspect had not yet been arrested as of Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators said 11 firearms were seized during the operation.
Officials also alleged hotel owner Jessica Woodard failed to cooperate with investigators during previous incidents at the property.
The investigation remains ongoing.
