INDIANA — A water rescue operation is currently underway in southeastern Indiana after a vehicle carrying three people was swept away by high water Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The incident happened around 8:37 a.m. in the 1600 block of South County Road 400 West in Holton, according to Ripley County Chief Deputy Lee Davidson.
Officials said the vehicle was attempting to cross a driveway that passes over the North Fork of Graham Creek when rising water swept it into the creek.
Authorities said the vehicle later became stranded on a sandbar, where rescue crews from the Holton, New Marion and Osgood fire departments are communicating with the occupants while rescue efforts continue.
No injuries have been reported.
Indiana conservation officers, the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police are also at the scene.
First responders are asking the public to stay away from the area while the rescue operation remains active.
