
VIRGINIA — A Virginia State Police trooper was injured Friday morning after being struck while working a crash scene on Interstate 95 in Hanover County.
According to Virginia State Police, troopers were on scene conducting a crash investigation on southbound I-95 when the incident occurred around 5:37 a.m. near mile marker 95.
Officials said one trooper was positioned in the left travel lane with emergency lights activated to provide traffic control, while a second trooper was on the left shoulder, also with lights on.
Police said a Nissan Rogue traveling southbound in the left lane struck the marked state police vehicle.
The trooper and the driver of the Nissan were both transported to VCU Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Another trooper on scene and the driver involved in the initial crash were not injured.
The incident caused significant traffic backups for several miles Friday morning.
Virginia State Police are reminding drivers to follow the state’s Move Over law, which requires motorists to change lanes or slow down when approaching emergency vehicles with flashing lights.
The crash remains under investigation.
